1. Radon – Historical roots
The story can be traced back as far as the 15th century, with successive dilemmas and controversies .
Around 1470, silver mining began in the Schneeberg region, a small town in Saxony, Germany, located in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge in German), and in the Jachymov region of northwest Bohemia around the same time.
The mining techniques applied in these two regions in the early 16th century were described and illustrated by Georgius Agricola (1494-1555), nicknamed the father of mineralogy, who worked from 1527 to 1533 as a physician in Jachymov.
