5. Adaptation of existing diking systems

Adapting a diking system requires the study and comparison of different options, which can be very different in terms of the principles implemented. The project must be carried out in compliance with regulatory requirements, particularly in terms of safety and the environment. It must also be economically justified.

5.1 Adaptation principles

The adaptation of diking systems must be considered on several scales:

  • on the scale of a river watershed or a coastal sedimentary unit;

  • on the scale of the diking system ;

  • on the scale of the structure (we'll consider a dike-type structure here).
