INTRODUCTION
The maritime and port world has embarked on an unprecedented digital transformation. The deployment of devices enabling the massive collection of data of all kinds (on the marine environment, on the operating conditions of ships and port infrastructures, etc.) and the development of algorithms and mathematical models to exploit this data offer the maritime world new services and applications, helping to improve the performance, safety and competitiveness of this sector, which is strategic for the global and national economy.
The aim of this article, which is mainly aimed at young engineers, is to provide an introduction to the uses of data in the maritime domain, together with an overview of the different learning methods that can be used to exploit this data, and to give some concrete examples of applications to different areas of the "blue economy".
