1.1 System overview

A typical communications constellation program aims to provide telecommunications services worldwide via a network of interconnected, redundant satellites and a ground segment. Such a system includes all the means of controlling the satellites, as well as the means of connecting users to the network.

A typical constellation is made up of a number of satellites, at a given altitude, organized around different orbital planes on which the main satellites orbit. In general, these satellites communicate with their neighbors in the same or adjacent orbital planes via antennas called cross-links....
