3. Serving strategies for an MTF
The metro-style operating model is that of successive omnibus convoys on the same line. It's a very simple model, both for the operator and for the passenger who boards the first convoy that comes along. The key parameter is the time interval between two trains. This model offers maximum carrying capacity with a very simple ground infrastructure.
MTF sometimes uses this omnibus service architecture, but catchment area or infrastructure constraints more often than not lead to other service architectures.
3.1 Why omnibus services are not general in MTF
MTF lines are generally longer, and omnibus service can present three major pitfalls:
