10. Conclusion

Since the 1970s, the electrotechnical architecture of rail motor equipment has benefited from a complete revolution with the development of controlled semiconductors combined with computer control. The asynchronous motor has almost completely supplanted the DC commutator motor. These components have enabled us to rationalize the evacuation of losses using perfectly ecological fluids, such as air or water.

These technologies have enabled considerable progress to be made in terms of productivity. Engine utilization rates in excess of 30,000 km per month are commonplace, with virtually no maintenance required. Downtime is reduced to the simple exchange of sub-assemblies.

In addition to enabling mass production of components for all categories of machine, the modular nature of these systems also means a significant increase in service availability....
