12. Conclusion

In the article [PHA 2 030] , an attempt was made to give a synthetic view of the fundamental concepts relating to amorphous and glassy states which could help to a better understanding of these physical states. The aim of the present article is to review the possibilities for their practical use in the pharmaceutical field. In the past, they have generally been avoided due to their metastable nature, even unstable below T g . Glasses are not equilibrium systems, so their properties depend on the history of their preparation and storage. On the other hand, one of the great advantages of the amorphous state of a PA is that it gives rise to much faster dissolution rates and higher solubilities than those obtained from a crystalline form.
