1. The challenges of medical imaging
Medical imaging plays a key role in patient care, involving the radiologist at every stage:
for screening ;
for diagnosis ;
to set up the most appropriate treatment, estimate its efficacy or guide therapeutic choices;
for treatment, interventional radiology and surgery.
In practice, this means identifying the risk factors associated with disease, establishing the earliest possible diagnosis under minimally invasive conditions, improving the efficacy of treatments with patient comfort as a priority, compensating for functional loss and delaying the effects of aging, so as to combine longevity and well-being.
