1. Different antibiotics and producing micro-organisms

1.1 Antibiotics and secondary metabolites

Secondary metabolites are molecules generally produced by organisms after the active phase of growth, during the phase known as idiophase, as opposed to the active growth phase known as trophophase. The production of secondary metabolites is linked neither to the growth nor to the energy requirements of the producing organisms. The essential differences between primary and secondary metabolites are summarized in table 1 .
