The proposed model is based on the phenomena observed in a shell-and-tube heat exchanger:

  • the flow inside the tubes is relatively simple to model, since it takes place mainly in the longitudinal direction: it can therefore be represented using 1D equations in this direction;

  • flow outside the tubes is more complex to model, as it presents strong spatial heterogeneities, both in hydraulic and thermal terms....
