6. Surface protection and finishing
Finishing is almost always an essential operation on wood and wood-based materials: it involves applying a protective film to the surface of the work to protect it during use and give it an attractive appearance or color.
For structures exposed to the elements, the protective function is essential to avoid deterioration of the surface appearance due to the action of atmospheric agents (rain, sun, wind, etc.).
Whatever the system and product chosen, a finish must be maintained. This maintenance must be carried out before the finish is completely degraded, to avoid costly restoration of the substrate.
