5. Assemblies
The assembly of elementary parts is often made necessary by the natural limitations of available wood: length and width are imposed by tree dimensions, while thickness is often limited by the difficulty of drying thick cuts without causing splitting, especially in "dry" applications such as furniture. Moreover, the presence of unacceptable defects obliges the user to recut the part to eliminate them (purging). These assemblies are used to create parts of larger dimensions than those of the original parts; they are almost always definitive.
But it's also essential to assemble parts to create finished volumetric objects (furniture, joinery, frameworks, etc.).
