2. Recycling techniques and associated markets

Used textiles can be recycled in a variety of ways:

  • reuse for a purpose identical to their first use;

  • closed-loop recycling, which consists of remaking textile articles from recycled textiles;

  • open-loop recycling, which involves developing new products using textile materials (insulation, wiping);

  • other forms of material and energy recovery.

Numerous textile recycling solutions exist, as shown in the figure 4 .
