INTRODUCTION
Energy saving is at the heart of thinking about industry, housing
and transport, and insulation has become a central issue. Today's
insulation market offers a very wide choice of insulating materials,
and new ones have appeared in recent years, such as aerogels and natural
insulants
Thermal insulation can be associated with an insulating material, product or system. This article focuses on insulating materials, their performance and installation.
The intrinsic characteristics of insulating materials, such as porosity, thinness, thickness, operating temperature and environmental factors such as humidity, thermal ageing and fire behavior, all have an influence on insulation.
Simplified design examples and recommendations for installation and operation are provided to guide the engineer in selecting and sizing insulation systems adapted to the needs of each installation.
