3. Superalloy metallurgy
3.1 Microstructure and phases (Ni and Fe-Ni bases)
The metallographic structure of a superalloy is made up of several phases .
An austenitic γ matrix with a face-centered cubic structure (cfc) in which the elements Co, Cr, Mo, W and, to a lesser extent, Nb, Al, Ti and Ta can be substituted for Ni. These elements provide hardening in solid solution (figure 7 ).
