11. Textile treatment
Some resins are designed for solvent-based waterproofing of natural and synthetic fiber-based textiles for heavy fabrics, such as umbrella fabrics, soft luggage, leisurewear, rainwear, etc.
Water-repellent properties can be retained after washing or dry-cleaning, and the fabric's air and water vapor permeability remain unaffected. These resins ensure that fabrics are crease-resistant in both wet and dry conditions, and have a very soft feel.
Application is made to perfectly dry fabric, either by spraying or impregnation. Polymerization takes place at ordinary temperature (for 48 h, after evaporation of the solvent), but can be accelerated by heating (3 to 4 minutes at 130°C).
