1. Magnet molecules: a recent field of investigation

Molecular-scale control of the magnetic properties of matter is a huge challenge for the scientific community. It originally concerned chemists interested in the magnetic properties of metals with non-zero oxidation states. The study of these complexes or networks containing metal cations laid the foundations of magnetochemistry. Magneto-structural correlations, i.e. relationships between the structure of matter and its magnetic properties, were established. Very quickly, magnetochemists joined forces with physicists to further our understanding of the complex and original magnetic phenomena observed at the molecular level. In the early 1990s, molecular magnetism emerged as a discipline
