4. Seal performance

4.1 Temperature leakage rate

As mentioned in the introduction, this material was developed in response to the high-temperature sealing problems encountered by many laboratories exploring the field of high-temperature fuel cells.

For this type of application, the American Department Of Energy recommends a leak rate of 0.1 mbar.L/s at 900°C for an operating overpressure of 70 mbar. .

The sealing performance of this material was evaluated, at 900°C, by measuring the pressure loss (Δp) of a tank as a function of time (Δt). The leakage rate (q) is calculated using the following formula:
