2. The Reynolds equation

The article [TRI 1500] presents the Reynolds equation established in 1886 by the Irishman Osborne Reynolds, based on the equations of fluid mechanics adapted to the case of thin film . In EHD lubrication, the contact surfaces are generally rotating, and the Reynolds equation is written :

  • for a linear contact (e.g. a long cylinder on a plane) :
