8. Conclusion
In 2014, this knowledge makes it possible to determine the lubrication regime under which lubricated contacts operate at high pressures, and to calculate the thickness of the lubricant film. It also makes it possible to take thermal effects and feed conditions into account when calculating this thickness. Knowing the lubricant film thickness in an EHD contact not only enables us to predict its service life, but also to optimize it by choosing a lubricant with an appropriate viscosity, and using additives suited to the application concerned. It may even be possible to adapt speed or temperature conditions, or even optimize surface finishes.
