2.1 Major classes of protectors
There is a wide variety of temporary protection products, each adapted either to a type of protection, an application method or a disposal method. It's difficult to separate all these products into distinct types, as they often move seamlessly from one to another: we'll see that between an oil and a grease varnish, for example, there can be a whole series of intermediate products. 1.Standardization of industrial lubricants
The efforts of ISO member countries led to the creation of standard NF ISO 3448 (T 60-141), which classifies industrial lubricants according to their viscosity at a reference temperature of 40°C.
ISO 6743-99 and NF T 60 -162 classify lubricants into families, according to application. Lubricants have been classified into 18 families, listed by letter.

There are currently no international specifications for protective products. Some users have drawn up specifications for their particular applications, often using in-house, non-standardized test methods. These users are either manufacturers or organizations, most often military (US Army: MIL), French Ministry of the Armed Forces (AIR), Direction centrale du service des Essences des Armées (DCEA).
