3. General-purpose passivatable metals and alloys

Stainless steels and aluminum alloys are the two main families of general-purpose passivatable alloys. These two families are extremely broad. Not all alloy grades in each family are necessarily general-purpose. Some grades have extremely specific uses, and we won't discuss them here. Instead, we'll give a general overview of each family.
