4. Laser deposition and alloys

4.1 Physical principle

During laser alloying or surface deposition, the surface chemistry of the initial substrate is modified by a filler material in the form of powder (Fig. 9 ), wire or reactive gas. In this respect, these processes can be compared to thermal spraying processes .
