3. Hybrid coatings

Hybrid coatings have been developed with a view to limiting environmental impact and achieving efficacy in all immersion conditions. These paints combine surface properties to limit the adhesion of organisms and biodegradable properties to release biocides (figure 16 ). To achieve these properties, a copolymer synthesized from a low surface energy polymer (PDMS) and biodegradable polymers (polyesters) is used as a binder. Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), a hydrophobic, semi-crystalline polymer, and poly(DL-lactic acid), an amorphous, hydrophilic polymer, were studied for the biodegradable part
