The study of the propagation stage of a corrosion fatigue crack, using fracture mechanics concepts, provides an insight into the relative importance of the propagation stage in the overall service life of a part or structure
The quantitative study of the propagation stage of a fatigue crack is made possible by the introduction of fracture mechanics concepts and, in particular, the stress intensity factor K, which expresses the state of stress in the vicinity of a crack. This factor is of the form :
