2. Biofilm
As described by Haras , the formation of a bacterial biofilm is a complex phenomenon involving the medium, the bacteria and the colonized surfaces. It is the result of the physico-chemical properties existing between the surfaces of the material and the micro-organisms, as well as their response to adhesion and increased cell density.
Any metallic material immersed in a non-sterile environment is more or less rapidly covered by a film of organic and then biological matter.
