4.1 State of the art
Like all metal and alloy production processes, VAR remelting has been the subject of a great deal of theoretical research, and still is in 2021. The mechanisms involved are complex and highly coupled. Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation have traditionally been used extensively by the R&D departments of the companies concerned to analyze and optimize the conduct of remelting operations. These tools enable better control of end-product quality, and provide essential support for the development of new products, reducing costs and development times.
