3.1 Sizing

The study of a steel mill begins with a survey of the basic data that will enable us to determine its initial characteristics:

  • annual production targets for each steel grade ;

  • the rate of plant operation ;

  • accessible raw materials ;

  • available utilities ;

  • the space available in the plant.

  • The choice of refining process and secondary metallurgy facilities (ladle, vacuum, etc.) will be dictated by the production schedule. The choice of dedusting and, possibly, gas and/or heat recovery will be guided by considerations of investment and operating...
