3. YBCO depot

3.1 MOCVD

In this section, we describe the deposition of YBCO by a vacuum chemical vapor condensation method (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition – MOCVD) using vapors of metal-organic compounds. Deposition takes place on a substrate heated to high temperature, where the species react after surface diffusion. This process features a very high deposition rate (several μm/h) and is linked to vacuum techniques, but without the need for ultra-high vacuum. Here, studies on IBAD and RABITS substrates are described, leading to laboratory or pre-industrial pilots capable of manufacturing kilometer-long ribbons (table 2 ).
