2. Principle of mechanical surface treatments

2.1 Shot peening

Shot-peening involves projecting small steel, cast iron, glass or ceramic balls (shot) at high speed (10 to 100 m/s) onto the part to be treated.

Shot blasting is carried out under perfectly controlled conditions, which have nothing to do with the many uses of shot blasting for cleaning or descaling parts. Shot size can vary from 0.1 to 3 mm, depending on the machine configuration used. All shot blasting media used must comply with a particle size distribution set by [17] standards.
