calefaction; calefaction

During quenching, a layer of vapor is formed on the surface of the metal, which cools the workpiece less effectively than liquid water.

relaxation; stress relief anneal

Low-temperature annealing (typically 450 – 500°C) to reorganize dislocations at microstructural level, reduce residual stresses and soften the material mechanically.

cold-working

Cold forming by any process (rolling, drawing, pilgrim rolling, etc.). Hardening introduces microstructural dislocations that harden the material and reduce its ductility.

recrystallization; recrystallization

Anneal at sufficient temperature to completely eliminate dislocations created by work hardening.
