5. Review of electrolytes and processes for the treatment of additive manufacturing parts
The literature on the electropolishing of alloys produced by additive manufacturing mainly features laboratory-scale studies aimed at testing the action of new, often milder, electrolyte formulations and defining the associated electrical treatment parameters. Only a handful of studies have been carried out on a pilot or semi-industrial scale, taking into account part geometry.
5.1 SLM stainless steels
The process is used extensively on an industrial scale on AISI 300 series stainless steels (for example, for the processing of medical devices, often in large series), and can be transferred to additive manufacturing parts, with some adaptation of practices due to the complexity of the parts.
