10. Conclusion

Serviceability requirements (corrosion performance, reduced risk of embrittlement of high-strength steels, optimized fasteners, etc.) will inevitably call for new advances in R&D for alloyed zinc co-deposits. Several avenues can be explored, including

  • improving the stability of existing processes and/or developing new formulations to meet the needs of customers in sectors requiring high levels of safety, such as aeronautics;

  • research and development of Zn-X micro and/or nanoparticle composite deposits;

  • the development of environmentally-friendly, high-performance Cr(III) or even chromium-free post-treatment processes (sol-gel processes, etc.).
