6. Applications in the electronics industry

The use of electroless nickel in the electronics industry followed a continuous growth curve from the moment its exceptional qualities were fully recognized: non-magnetism, resistance to corrosion and wear, solderability and appearance.

This performance has helped make the industry the largest user of electroless nickel [32] .

6.1 Memory disks

A key factor was the phenomenal development of rigid memory disks and disk drives in PCs (personal computers): 32.5 million disk drives were produced worldwide in 1991. The forecast for 1993 was 44 million [33] . This figure was reached and then exceeded in 1995...
