1. Interest in and development of electrolytic codeposition

  • Although Fink and Prince studied the possibility of using electrochemical codeposition to produce self-lubricating copper-graphite coatings for use in car engines in 1928 , little research was undertaken in this field until the 1960s. Initial investigations began in the early 1960s, leading to new industrial applications for the electrodeposition of composite coatings. Growing interest in these new techniques has led to a better understanding of the processes involved.

    Electrolytic codeposition was thus born, and numerous types of particles, both in nature and size, were studied for codeposition in an electrolytic matrix.
