3. Choosing a fuser

In a steel foundry, the definition of a melting unit, whether an arc furnace or induction furnace, whether or not associated with a secondary metallurgy process, is a delicate operation that must be carried out with care and methodology. This choice must meet all the technical, economic and human objectives set by the prime contractor and investor. It is therefore advisable to :

  • to assess the performance and probable development of French cast steel production in terms of tonnage and grades of steel produced;

  • update the main expense items for each type of merger;

  • specify the metallurgical advantages and limitations of the various production methods (table 3 ).
