1. Flat products: manufacture, properties

1.1 Definition of flat products

The main French standards defining flat steel products obtained by continuous rolling are listed and reviewed in attached to this article. However, reference should be made first and foremost to the general French standard NF EN 10079 dec. 1992 Definition of steel products, which defines steel products according to :

  • shape and dimensions;

  • their appearance and surface finish.

In particular, paragraph 5.1 defines flat products:

Products with an almost rectangular cross-section, whose width is much greater than their thickness. Their surface is technically smooth,...
