    This dossier should be read in conjunction with [M 3 017] , which describes the thick film lubrication regime. In this section, we describe, from a mechanical point of view, the characteristics of the pocket-plate (mixed) regime, where :

    • pockets of lubricant of significant thickness (in the micrometer range);

    • and on the complementary part of the apparent contact area of very thin films (thickness of the order of a few tens of nanometers).

    Next, we describe the characteristics of these thin films generated by the chemical reactivity of lubricant additives.
