Note :

the reader is referred to the various articles in this section on metal properties.

Different classifications are used to describe the range of steels. They refer to chemical composition, processing methods, properties or uses.

Accordingly, NF EN 10020 considers two classifications.

  • On the one hand :

    • Basic steels: steels not subject to any specifications requiring special precautions during manufacture;

    • quality steels: steels meeting more stringent requirements than those for basic steels and therefore requiring certain precautions during manufacture; however, such steels do not meet any requirements regarding response to heat treatment and inclusionary state;...
