5. Alloying elements in steels
The influences of alloying elements that may be introduced into steels must be studied in relation to various parameters:
their solubility ;
their action on equilibrium structures;
their ability to form certain compounds (nitrides, oxides, sulfides and intermetallics);
their action on non-equilibrium transformations.
