MAX phase; MAX phase

Ceramic. Stoichiometric ternary compound of the nitride and carbide family. Their general formula is M n+1 AX n (n = 1,2,3), M a transition metal, A an element from groups 12 to 16, X either carbon or nitrogen.

Plasticity

Characteristic of a material capable of deforming irreversibly under the action of mechanical stress and maintaining the deformation after discharge. Plastic deformation takes place between the material's elastic limit and breaking point.
