1. Classification of permanent magnet materials
The progress made in the manufacture of permanent magnets over the course of the 20th century has been nothing short of spectacular, particularly over the last three decades. Thanks to the discovery of new, ever more efficient magnetic phases, on average over the century, specific energy density has doubled every 12 years. This evolution over the years is shown in figure 1 .
