Various processes can lead to hardening or an increase in the tensile strength of a pure metal.

In the case of lead, these processes can be :

  • the formation of a solid solution by substituting lead atoms (solvent) for alloying element atoms (solute) in the lead crystal lattice 2.1 ;

  • cold work hardening of an alloy 2.2
