4. Lead alloy preparation
Lead alloys can be obtained either by melting and mixing their constituents, or by refining and titling recovered materials.
4.1 From the components
It is often possible to introduce the alloying elements directly into the molten lead. However, it is sometimes necessary to use a parent alloy, to save time, reduce the risk of oxidation and achieve greater homogeneity. This is the case, for example, with tellurium, calcium or sodium alloys.
