elastic deformation
Reversible deformation of a material under mechanical stress, mainly due to deformation of atomic or molecular bonds.
plastic deformation
Permanent deformation of a material after mechanical stress, usually accompanied by hardening.
dislocation; dislocation
Linear defect within a crystal; defined by the direction of the defect line and the Burgers vector, it contributes to the plastic deformation of crystals and their work hardening.
strain hardening
Hardening of a crystal during plastic deformation; the multiplication of dislocations beyond the elastic limit leads to numerous interactions between them, making it more difficult for them to move in the sliding planes.
