6. Scheil reaction schemes

6.1 Description of the synoptic panel

In 1936, a German researcher, Erich Scheil, proposed an invariant reaction sequence representation for isobaric ternary diagrams. The method is of interest for systems without compositionally extensive solid phases, but with a cascade of invariant equilibria involving several solid solutions or compounds. Scheil's representation is a synoptic table of invariant equilibria inscribed in boxes connected by lines that schematize monovariant paths (figure 52 ).
