8. Illustration of CALPHAD methods in multiconstituent systems

8.1 Ternary alloys (C, Cr, Fe)

The article [M 76] offers a range of experimental ternary diagrams compiled by B. Hocheid and Ph. Poupeau covering several practical areas of metallurgical application. Iron-chromium-carbon alloys play an important role in ferrous materials, either in the field of low-alloy steels with improved hardenability, or in the field of certain stainless steels and refractories. The diagrams [M 76,2]-4 to [M 76,2]-10 relate to this ternary system. The Thermo-Calc SSOL database is well developed in the field of ferrous multiconstituent phases, so it can be used to compare calculated evaluations with experimental data.
