3. Microstructures produced – Properties

From a microstructural point of view, conventional plastic deformation processes such as rolling, extrusion and extrusion (for the latter, see [M 640] and [M 651] ) do not achieve the exceptional degree of microstructural refinement obtained by severe plastic deformation. Materials deformed by conventional methods exhibit a substructure of dislocations (cells, sub-grains), marked by grain boundaries with low angles of disorientation.
