4. Influence of metals and other elements added to aluminum
The effect of an element on the properties of aluminum obviously depends on its nature and the quantity added. But for some elements, their influence on the alloy's properties may also depend on the presence of one, or more, other element(s), as they may form intermetallic compounds with each other.
Many elements in Mendeleyev's periodic table are soluble in the liquid state in aluminum, in widely varying proportions, as shown in table 3 for the most common elements used in aluminum metallurgy. .
