 INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this article is to determine the thrust and abutment forces as a function of the geometry of the screens or retaining wall and the soil mass selected, the mechanical characteristics of the soil and the relative displacements of the wall with respect to the soil.

The article presents the thrust and stop coefficients, their calculation methods (Mohr-Coulomb, Rankine, and limit equilibria) and compares them.

These methods are developed for different types of soil (coherent or powdery), with calculation examples.
